The health care reform bill should be on the President’s desk today, Tuesday, March 23, 2010, after passing through the house late Sunday night. President Obama has announced that he plans to sign the bill when it reaches his desk.
He celebrated the passage of the bill through remarks given at the White House,
“We didn’t give in to mistrust or to cynicism or to fear. Instead, we proved that we are still a people capable of doing big things.”
Hours before the vote occurred on Sunday, the House Democrats clinched their victory by agreeing to a deal with opponents of abortion rights within their party to reiterate in an executive order that federal money provided by the bill could not be used for abortions.
The House voted 219-212 to approve the measure, with every Republican voting no on the matter.
