Sen. Christopher J. Dodd wants businesses to offer 7 paid sick days a year, so workers with the flu can stay home. The issue is, when does it reach the point that legislation is exploiting the H1N1 flu pandemic. Congressional democrats believe the emergency sick-leave legislation is needed.
This intentions of this type of legislation is to prevent a rapid spread of the virus. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd’s justification for the legislation is to eliminate the dangerous choice employees are making “between staying healthy and making ends meet.” A foreseen issue is that the legislation will invite abuse by workers.
Both sides of the situation, debate to reach a final decision but currently, there is no requirement for businesses of any size to provide paid sick leave.
