Kicking the smoking habit

November 6, 2009

It’s no secret that smoking cigarettes can lead to a vast array of health problems, anything from lung cancer to emphysema. It doesn’t come as a surprise once you realize cigarettes are made with 4000 chemical compounds and at least 400 toxic substances.

Unfortunately, students all over America have picked up this habit and it could very easily lead to future problems. If you are looking to quit, there are programs available to help kick the habit gradually or if you feel strong enough you can always resort to quitting “cold turkey”. One thing that should be avoided is switching to light cigarettes as a form of quitting. Many people feel that a good alternative to giving up the habit completely is switching to lights. A new study shows that smokers who traded to light cigarettes were 50 percent less likely to kick the habit.

Dr. Hilary Tindle of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine said in a statement,

It may be that smokers think that a lighter brand is better for their health and is therefore an acceptable alternative to giving up completely

Whether you are trying to quit, or you don’t see the need, make sure you have yourself covered in case something does happen to your health!
