Who Do You Trust? Can You Trust Anyone?

Senator Baucus, the Montana Democrat and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, has been working on a new plan for health care reform. As of right now, the plan requires that all Americans must purchase health insurance.

After doing some research, it is important to point out that Baucus may have more influence in his decision making than what is best for the public. In the last year, Baucus took $1.5 million from the health sector for his political campaign. Other members of the Senate Finance Committee have also received hundreds of thousands of dollars for their campaigns.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Baucus holds dinners for health industry executives, and invites these execs to his annual fly-fishing and golfing weekends. With so much interaction with the executives of the industry, it is hard to believe there is not any influence. Although Baucus accepts these donations to his campaign he stated to Montana’s Missoulian newspaper earlier this year that “no one gets special treatment”.
