How many Americans don't have health care? Why?

June 9, 2009

Even though health coverage provides protection from expensive medical bills more and more Americans are not seeking coverage.

According to the Thomson Reuters Center for Healthcare Improvement, US Census, more than 45 million Americans do not have health insurance.

Their break down of why no coverage is purchased is interesting.

  • Can’t afford (48%)
  • Not offered through job (23%)
  • Not employed (11.1%)
  • Waiting for Insurance to go into effect (5%)
  • Other (13%)

No matter what your situation is, if you don’t think you can afford health care then you definitely can’t afford major medical bills.  The decision is yours but make sure you understand the risks you face with no coverage!
