Is healthcare really too expensive for students?

May 20, 2009

The Orion at Cal-State Chico makes the statement that healthcare is too expensive for students:

“A trip to the hospital and $300 later, senior Susana Llamas remains without health insurance. All and all, being covered is just too expensive for any student.”

At GradGuard, we know just how expensive medical bills are when you’re a college student and you’re not covered, and those are the bills that students can’t afford.

As quoted in The Orion story, Cal-State Chico Student Health Advisory Council Chair Jerry Pin points to the fact that medical bills are very costly:

“‘If we don’t insure ourselves, we might run into these situations and the next thing you know, you have a $10,000 bill, and how do you pay for it?’ Pin said. ‘However you’re going to do it, you have to pay it. Why would you take that risk when you could pay a little amount and just insure yourself for whatever life brings you?'”

How do you cover yourself against the sort of $10,000 bill that Pin describes and the expensive of monthly health insurance bills? Consider Short-Term Medical Insurance – it protects against catastrophic medical bills and is actually affordable. It’s an insurance that’s a good fit for many college students!
