Plants are a great way to add style to a room. Not only are they beautiful to look at, they create a relaxing atmosphere and are fun to care for. While tending to a plant can be a daunting task at the start, there are many easy to care for plants which require little to no care at all. Below is a list of five plants which would look fabulous in any dorm or apartment!
1.Bamboo
Bamboo is a great plant choice for both dorms and apartments due to its easy care requirements and compact size. Bamboo is very low-maintenance, requiring only weekly waterings. It does best in indirect sunlight, making it great for all dorm rooms and dorm surfaces (it can rest on your desk, bureau, beside your bed, etc.) Bamboo is sold at a wide range of retailers (many supermarkets even carry it) and varies largely in size depending on how many stalks you purchase.
2. Cactus
Cacti are easy to care for due to their love of mostly dry, sunny environments. Many varieties of cacti are available in small pots for indoor use. While many cacti enjoy living in a sunny window and thrive on an irregular watering schedule consisting of watering the plant thoroughly and then holding off on watering again until the soil is very dry and dusty, be sure to always check the tag on your cactus or ask a sales associate at the retailer you are purchasing your cactus from for specific instructions, as varying cactus types have different needs.
3. Orchids
Orchids are a great choice for a dorm or apartment due to their lovely fragrance and beautiful flowers. Many orchids thrive living on a windowsill in a warm environment, making them great indoor plants. Most orchids need to be watered roughly every seven days, but be sure to read about your specific orchid’s needs upon purchasing.
4. Palm
If you would like a larger plant for your dorm room or apartment, consider choosing a palm tree. They are relatively easy to maintain and they add a relaxing vibe and a great burst of color to your home. Most palms enjoy indirect sunlight (making them a great choice for hallways and alcoves) and regular watering.
5. Cut Flowers
If taking care of a plant is a bit too much of a time commitment for you, consider decorating occasionally with freshly cut flowers. While this can become a pricy habit, freshly cut flowers add a beautifully refreshing look to any room.
